An inmate being held at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility was found hanging from a noose in his cell at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016. The noose appeared to have been fashioned from bedsheets.
Deputies immediately removed the sheets and, along with medical personnel, began CPR. The inmate’s prognosis did not improve and the injuries sustained as a result of the inmate’s actions proved fatal. He was pronounced deceased at 9:52 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016.
The inmate is identified as 50-year-old Jered Maes. Maes had been housed at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility since July 27, 2016 when he was arrested by the Aurora Police Department on allegations of DUI. He did have a $25,000 bond, but it had not been posted.
The on-going investigation into the death is being conducted by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
