[ARCHIVED] ACSO Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment for CALEA Assessment

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive in Centennial on July 26, 2015, to examine all aspects of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office’s policies and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

Verification by the team that the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation for the Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation Program and the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program, which are highly prized recognitions of law enforcement professional excellence. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office must comply with all applicable CALEA standards in order to gain reaccredited status.

The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, observe activities, and interact with agency representatives in order to verify compliance with each of the standards. To obtain a copy of the standards, contact Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Accreditation Manager, Cheryl Bydalek at 720-874-3812.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the CALEA assessment team. Comments will be limited to ten (10) minutes in length and must address the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.

There are three different ways to submit your comments:

1. Calling the assessment team at 720-874-3005 on Monday, July 27, 2015, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

2. Attending the Public Information Session on Monday, July 27, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. The session will be conducted in the training rooms of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Administration Building, located at 13101 East Broncos Parkway, Centennial, Colorado, 80112.

3. Writing to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. at: 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
