Relief could be coming soon for Xcel Energy customers. The wholesale price of natural gas has been dropping, and Xcel is passing the change in cost directly on to customers. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission recently approved Xcel Energy’s new cost adjustment plan which says it will lower bills for gas customers by around 15 percent. The estimated decrease is about $18 per month on an average homeowner’s bill.
There are some things you can do to save money on your utility bills:
- Avoid using major appliance like dishwasher, washer and dryer during peak-hours (weekdays between 3 and 7 p.m., excluding holidays)
- Install a programable or smart thermostat to automatically control your furnace
- Keep your thermostat set to 68 degrees Fahrenheit
- Properly seal doors and windows
- Turn off lights, computers, and other smaller electric equipment when not in use.
- Schedule timely furnace inspections
