National gas prices are at their highest point since 2014. Electricity costs are up too. That means that the cost to heat homes during the coming months will be higher as well. The Community Resource’s Weatherization Team has 7 low- or no-cost tips to help you save energy and keep your costs down this winter.
- Clean or replace your furnace air filter monthly.
- If your hot water is higher than 130 degrees, turn down the gauge on your water heater.
- Wash clothes in cold water and hang to dry.
- Use a crock pot in the winter instead of your oven.
- Insulate your water heater tank.
- Avoid using electric portable space heaters.
- Make sure there’s nothing blocking your vents or registers.
