[ARCHIVED] Work on the Iliff Ave. Corridor Project causing temporary travel impacts

Traffic Impacts for the Week of Dec. 25


Arapahoe County Public Works and Concrete Express Inc. continue corridor improvements on Iliff Avenue. Crews have shifted traffic between Wabash to Yosemite streets to open work areas for future widening. Road excavation and removals continue on the north side of Iliff Avenue beginning with the Emporia Street intersection. In the coming weeks, Emporia Street will have extended lane and sidewalk closures while crews perform underground drainage installation.  

Work on the High Line Canal Trail has started. Construction include bike trail reconstruction, bridge rehabilitation and environmental improvements. Pile driving operations, which will be noticeable to nearby residents, is underway. During construction there will be no closure of the High Line Canal Trail. 

 A full closure of the Cherry Creek Trail under Iliff Avenue will be in effect starting Jan. 4 and continue about four months. Trail users will detour along Iliff Avenue to the signalized crosswalk at Trenton Way and back along Iliff Avenue to join Cherry Creek Trail on the other side of Illif Avenue.

Arapahoe County Public Works and Concrete Express Inc. continue corridor improvements on Iliff Avenue. Crews will shift traffic between Wabash Street to Yosemite Street to open work areas for future widening. Traffic shift operations are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18, morning. Although access through the corridor will be maintained during traffic shift operations, intermittent lane closures will take place as needed. Traffic is advised to take an alternate route.

Road excavation and removals will occur on north side of Iliff Avenue beginning with the Emporia Street intersection. In the coming weeks, Emporia Street will have extended lane and sidewalk closures while crews perform underground drainage installation. 

Work on the High Line Canal Trail has started. Construction activities include bike trail reconstruction, bridge rehabilitation and environmental improvements. Work will require approximately a week of pile driving operations that will be noticeable to nearby residents. During construction there will be no closure of the High Line Canal Trail, but flaggers will be in place to assist trail users safely through the construction zone. 

Cherry Creek Trail work will begin in early January and will continue through Spring 2022. During construction a full closure of the Cherry Creek Trail under Iliff Avenue will be in effect starting Jan. 4 and continue for about four months. Trail users will detour along Iliff Avenue to the signalized crosswalk at Trenton Way and back along Iliff Avenue to join Cherry Creek Trail on the other side of Illif Avenue. View the detour map

Roadway maintenance operations will also continue through the end of 2021. Crews will conduct intermittent short-term lanes closures for pothole repairs between Quebec Street and Parker Road.

Crews will shift traffic between Parker Road (CO83) and Wabash Street to open work areas for future widening. The traffic shift will take place at 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Access through the corridor will be maintained during the traffic shift, but intermittent lane closures will take place as needed. Motorists are advised to take an alternate route.

The traffic switch will allow road excavation and removals to take place on the north side of Iliff Avenue starting with the Emporia Street intersection. Emporia Street will have extended lane and sidewalk closures next week while crews perform underground drainage installation.

Daytime truck haul operations will resume on Nov. 29 as part of the demolition.

Crews will continue to perform existing roadway and median removals between Yosemite and Wabash streets and sidewalk removals between Emporia Street and Dayton Way. To safely remove the existing median to open the roadway for future widening, there will be daytime single-lane closures. 

Roadway maintenance operations will begin throughout the corridor and continue intermittently through November. Crews will conduct intermittent short-term lane closures to perform pothole repairs between Quebec Street and Parker Road.

Travel Impacts for the Weekend of Sept. 11


Arapahoe County Public Works and Development, along with contractor partner Concrete Express Inc., this week started initial roadway preparations and earthwork outside the active lanes on Iliff Avenue as part of a $25.64 million Iliff Avenue Corridor Improvement Project between South Parker Road (CO 83) and Quebec Street.

To realign traffic lanes on Parker Road and Iliff Avenue and begin work outside the roadway, crews will conduct an intermittent nighttime single lane closure, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 on southbound Parker Road at Iliff Avenue until 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.

Planned improvements to Iliff Avenue include: four-lane corridor with acceleration and deceleration lanes, intersection safety modifications, bike lane and additional ADA-compliant sidewalk installations, transit stop enhancements, multi-use path/crosswalk improvements, traffic signal optimization with signal detection/ video monitoring and equipment upgrades.

Travel Impacts

  • Intermittent lane closure on southbound Parker Road at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Iliff Avenue until 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
  • No traffic impacts from Sept. 3 through Sept. 10.
