Transportation Master Plan community survey IDs congestion and safety as top priorities

SMP_CP_Transportation_20210505

We’ve reviewed the community input for our 2040 Transportation Master Plan. The results clearly highlight that no two corridors are alike, and they all require different solutions to meet future mobility needs.

The survey was conducted earlier this year for the 24 key transportation corridors that the Plan has identified as critical to meeting the transportation needs of the County’s transportation network. Our project team received completed surveys from 431 people, and the results provide valuable insight during the Plan’s ongoing drafting stage.

Community response shows that while some of these corridors would benefit from new roadway connections, others need to focus on traffic congestion, maintenance and multimodal investments. Here are some highlights from the survey results:

  • The most common highest-priority concern was congestion/traffic (the highest priority for 17 of the 24 corridors).
  • Updating facilities was the top priority for four corridors, and maintenance was number one for three of the 24 corridors.
  • Safety was the second-biggest priority, after congestion/traffic, and was the top priority, along with pedestrian improvements, for the Colfax corridor. The Mississippi, Hampden and I-225 corridors also had significant safety concerns.

This summer the County will host virtual public meetings, inviting further review and comment on the Plan, and the events may be in person if COVID-19 restrictions allow for it. With your help, the County will be ready to move forward with a vision and investment priorities that continue to make our communities a great place to live, work, visit and play.
