Get involved with Arapahoe County’s citizen boards and committees

Do you want to make your voice heard across the County? Consider applying for one of our many citizen boards and committees. The County’s 23 advisory groups have rotating memberships, and new vacancies open up regularly. Some of these groups have very specific requirements, and others are more general, and some also offer a small stipend for members, so visit our website to see if you might be a fit!

Among the current posts the County is seeking to fill are:

Open Spaces Trail Advisory Board (OSTAB)
We have one current vacancy and two more that will be available after June 15. One is an at-large seat, and the others are for County districts 4 and 5, meaning members must live in those specific areas.

The seven-member OSTAB provides the “voice of the citizens” in making recommendations of how the Open Space tax is spent throughout Arapahoe County. We are looking for individuals with a passion for parks, trails and open spaces in their community. Previous experience in local or regional parks and recreation, grant programs, conservation easements, land acquisitions, and trails is highly desirable.

Planning Commission
This is a position within District 2, and members should live in unincorporated Arapahoe County. The Planning Commission hears requests for land-use applications and proposed amendments to the County's Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code and is a recommending agency to the Board of County Commissioners on other actions.

Justice Coordinating Committee (ACJCC)
The ACJCC is currently seeking an Arapahoe County citizen-at-large. The ACJCC also has subcommittees on racial equity and behavioral health that welcome participation and input from new members.

Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment has vacancies for three additional alternate members who fill in when a primary member cannot attend a hearing. Members must be a resident of unincorporated Arapahoe County. This board hears requests for zoning variances, fields applications for special exception uses, and interprets zoning regulations for unincorporated Arapahoe County. Meetings are held the second Thursday of every month on an as-needed basis.

East County Planning Commission
Multiple vacancies. This committee makes recommendations to the Public Works and Development Department on various development applications. When the County receives a land use application in the eastern part of the County, the staff planner for the project will include the East Arapahoe County Advisory Planning Commission members when they send referrals to other agencies. The commission may hold meetings and communicate with other members as needed to conduct the work of the advisory commission.

Weed Advisory Board
Multiple vacancies. Established by Colorado law, this board serves the Board of County Commissioners in the matters of undesirable plant management. A majority of the Board must own 40 acres or more in the County, and all members must reside within the County. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.
