Fire restrictions drop to Stage 1 in Arapahoe County

Stage 1 Burn Ban

ARAPAHOE COUNTY – Recent moisture and relative humidity has allowed Sheriff Tyler Brown to ease fire restrictions in Arapahoe County. Beginning December 9, 2020, fire restrictions in unincorporated Arapahoe County, Centennial, Foxfield and Deer Trail have been lowered from Stage 2 down to Stage 1. Stage 1 means no open burning of any kind without a permit from the appropriate fire district and no use of fireworks.

Exemptions to the ban include fires contained within liquid fueled or gas stoves, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves/fireplaces in habitable buildings; propane/LP/natural gas-fueled barbecue grills and fire pits that do not produce or emit sparks or embers when used; and charcoal-fueled grills and pits that do not produce or emit sparks.

Residential use of charcoal grills, tiki torches, chimineas or other portable fireplaces or patio fire pits also are allowed and those fires must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Also allowed are small recreational fires at developed picnic or campground sites contained in fixed permanent metal/steel fire pits (rock fire rings are considered temporary and not permanent) with flame lengths not in excess of 4 feet.
