Conservation in perpetuity of more than 700 acres surrounding Buckley Air Force Base
This week, Arapahoe County is recognizing the recipients of the 2020 Our Progress Takes Flight Award, an award presented annually by Arapahoe County Open Spaces in recognition of outstanding stewardship in conservation and protection of the great outdoors. This year, Open Spaces is honoring a group of partners—a mix of nonprofits, local, state and federal government agencies—for coming together to purchase and protect in perpetuity more than 700 acres of land surrounding Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.
While the pandemic has prevented us from holding an in-person award ceremony, we’ve produced a video to share this impactful, collaborative project with the public.
The large scale, multiyear buffer project is a win-win for our community, our environment, and our local economy. Congratulations to this year’s award winners for their ongoing dedication to critical conservation work in our community.
