Newest County park opens to the public

The long-awaited Long’s Pine Grove, a 2.8-acre park in the Four Square Mile neighborhood of unincorporated Arapahoe County, opened to the public on July 15. Our Open Spaces team gave Commissioners Jeff Baker and Kathleen Conti an impromptu sneak peek, pictured here.

Come by the park at 1523 S Uinta Way (corner of S Uinta and Florida) and enjoy the views of the Front Range, pine trees that give it a woodsy feel, picnic facilities, playground, short walking loop, and a new pedestrian bridge to the High Line Canal Trail. All made possible by the great citizens of Arapahoe County and Open Spaces Sales and Use Tax dollars hard at work!

Long’s Pine Grove was named after Elynn Long, who lived in a blue house on the property for more than 50 years. Elynn loved and cared deeply for the land and her 69 pine trees, which were carefully preserved in the design of the park. Elynn’s neighbor Rich Laws took care of her over the years. He eventually bought the property from her and sold it to Arapahoe County Open Spaces when she passed away, to develop the land into a neighborhood park for residents to cherish and enjoy as did Elynn.

Visit the Long’s Pine Grove web page for more information about the park, including site plans that relied heavily on citizen input.
