Suspect deceased after officer involved shooting
ARAPAHOE COUNTY – On May 28, 2020 at approximately 3:15 p.m., two Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating criminal activity in the 9700 block of E. Geddes Ave. At approximately 3:45 p.m., the deputies encountered an individual and during their investigation one of the deputies discharged their firearm striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
Following agency policy, the deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The deputies’ identities are not being released at this time.
Further information may be provided at a later date as investigators make further progress in this investigation.

On May 28, 2020 at approximately 3:15 p.m. two Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies were watching a parked stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Day’s Inn located in the 9700 block of E. Geddes Ave. At approximately
3:45 p.m. the suspect entered the stolen car. In an attempt to flee the suspect backed into a patrol car, which was positioned behind the stolen vehicle. The deputy gave verbal orders for the suspect to get out of the car and show his hands. The suspect refused to obey the deputy’s orders, presented a deadly threat to the deputy and was subsequently shot.
The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the deputies at this time and the investigation is being conducted by the 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
