[ARCHIVED] "Blue Backs the Pink" partners with Denver 7

Blue backs the pink

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has arrested some notorious criminals, but now it’s going after another killer -- cancer! The sheriff’s office, along with Littleton Adventist Hospital is partnering with KMGH Denver7 to fight prostate and breast cancer in Colorado. Starting September 1, the sheriff’s office is launching the Blue Backs the Pink project to raise money for cancer patients throughout the state who can’t afford treatment.

During the months of September, which is Prostate Cancer Awareness month, and October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the sheriff’s office is selling pink and blue patches, pins, hats, challenge coins and much more. All the money raised goes to screen, image and treat underserved prostate and breast cancer patients at Littleton Adventist Hospital.

“As a law enforcement agency, we recognized the need to implement a program that allows us to give back to the people we serve,” says Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown. “We shared our vision with Littleton Adventist Hospital and Denver7, and are grateful they became our partners. Together, we are more powerful in our fight to save our citizens and eradicate cancer.”

Last year, the sheriff’s office donated $2,500 to Littleton Adventist Hospital. This year, with a more aggressive campaign and Denver7 on board, the goal is to donate $10,000 to the hospital.

Supporting cancer survivors

Throughout the month of September, our deputies will proudly wear blue patches, pins and other blue items to show men battling prostate cancer they’re not alone. Then in October, sheriff’s office employees will wear pink items to support breast cancer survivors. Employees at Littleton Adventist Hospital and Denver7 news anchors and reporters will also be wearing pins and other items to show their support.

Breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death for women in the United States, after lung cancer. It’s estimated that 1 in 7 women in Colorado will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. The Littleton Adventist Breast Care Center offers patients 3D mammography screening, risk assessment and diagnostic cancer screening, imaging and treatment.

The Blue Backs the Pink is managed by the nonprofit Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Employee Fund. The charitable organization is a 501(c)(3). 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Littleton Adventist Hospital.
