Investigators with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office have filed charges against a teacher after a Safe2Tell notification was received stating a young woman was victimized five years ago while she was his student.
After a thorough investigation, investigators working the case developed probable cause to believe 41-year-old Ian Ahern committed the crime of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust. Investigators filed the case with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. On January 25, 2019, Ahern turned himself in at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility and is in custody for the following crimes:
C.R.S. 18-3-405.3(1),(2)(b) Sexual Assault on a Child – Position of Trust, Pattern (2 counts)
Ahern has been employed by Littleton Public Schools since 2010 as the drama teacher at Arapahoe High School.
Juveniles are far less likely to report being a victim often out of fear, intimidation, or embarrassment, but would likely show signs of an assault. These signs might include a sudden change in behavior, nightmares, and excessive worrying or fearfulness.
If you know a child who may have been sexually assaulted, especially under similar circumstances, and believe the incident may be related to this suspect, please contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office at 720-874-4020.
While an arrest has been made, the investigation is continuing and may include the potential of photo line-ups or other identification techniques. No booking photo is being released of Ahern by the Sheriff’s Office at this time so as to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
