Helping Other People Excel (HOPE)

HOPE_2012_c9.jpgHelping Other People Excel (HOPE) is a non-profit program created by employees of the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services in Colorado that seeks to fill the needs of local individuals and families that can't be met by formal welfare programs.

HOPE provides goods and services to children who are victims of abuse or neglect, vulnerable seniors in the adult protection system, and struggling families and individuals in crisis.

How HOPE Helps

All needs are identified by our County caseworkers. For example, HOPE has provided funds for:

  • Camp, sports and art activities for children in foster care
  • Formal wear for prom, graduation or choir for foster children and at-risk youth
  • Funds to help youth and adults earn their GED
  • Funds to pay for emergency dental care and eye glasses for seniors
  • Rental assistance for a senior whose identity was stolen
  • Birthday presents for children without parents
  • A gravestone for a young mother

HOPE was established in 1992 and became Linda’s HOPE in memory of the late Linda Colizzo, a Human Services supervisor who believed in giving families every opportunity to succeed.
