COVID-19 Service Update

As a result of Governor Polis’s Executive Order D 2020 014, the Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder is temporarily issuing marriage licenses through application by mail. Please follow the below instructions.

Step 1: Complete the Application: Type your information in the fillable marriage application and checklist. Even if you have filled out the application online previously, you will need to fill out the application form. For reference on how to complete the form, please look at an example of a completed application.The highlighted fields are required information.

Step 2: Sign the Application: Print out the application. Each respective party sign on the Party One and Party Two lines.

Step 3: Identification: Make photocopies of your valid Identification such as Driver’s License issued in the United States, Passport, Military ID, or State-issued ID Card.

Step 4: Payment: Please write a check payable to the Arapahoe County Clerk for $30.

Step 5: Other documentation: A divorce decree is needed if either party finalized a divorce in the last 30 days. A “Social Security Affidavit” is required for any party who does not have a social security number. A Judicial Order is needed if either party is age 16 or 17.

Step 6: Mail documentation: Send required documentation and payment to: Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder, 5334 S. Prince St., Littleton, CO 80120.

Step 7: County processes application: The Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s office will receive your application and contact you by phone. Our clerks will issue the marriage license and mail it to the mailing address provided.

Step 8: Sign the Marriage License: Once you receive the marriage license in the mail, please follow the instructions on our website for solemnization. Once the marriage license is completed, please mail it back to the Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

Full-Service Marriage License
We are now offering full-service marriage licenses at each of our main branch locations. Apply for, obtain and record your marriage license at a location that is most convenient for you:

Timeline to Apply

A Marriage License may be issued in any Colorado county and used in any county in the state. Applicants do not need to be residents of Colorado (except in the case of a proxy marriage.) A marriage license is issued the day it is applied for and may be used immediately. The license must be signed within 35 days from the date of issue, and returned for recording within 63 days of marriage to our Littleton office only.

A marriage may be solemnized by judges, retired judges, magistrates, Indian tribe officials and clergy, or by the couple themselves. A friend or relative may not solemnize the marriage unless they are a judge or clergy. 

Age Requirements  

  • The legal age to marry without parental consent is 18 years of age.
  • Any party to a marriage that is 16 or 17 years old must obtain judicial approval prior to being issued a marriage license. The court will appoint a Guardian Ad Litem for the underage party and direct the Guardian Ad Litem to investigate the best interests of the underage party.
  • Any party that is 15 years old or younger is not able to obtain a marriage license.

STEP TWO: Complete Your Marriage License and Certificate 

After you have applied for and received a marriage license and certificate, follow these instructions to properly complete the certificate at your marriage. 

STEP THREE: Record Your Marriage License 

You must return the completed marriage license and certificate for recording to any of our branch offices within 63 days of the marriage. Branch locations:

Who Can Marry Us?   

A marriage may be solemnized by judges, retired judges, magistrates, Indian tribe officials and clergy, or by the couple themselves.
