It’s a great time of year to go out for a run or walk. Criminals can take advantage of circumstances in any area, at any time. Before you hit the trails, consider these tips to stay safe.
- Go jogging or walking when it’s light out. Criminals take advantage of darkness
- Carry identification and a phone with you if possible
- Tell a family member or friend what you’re doing, your location and when you’ll be back
- Use high visibility or reflective clothing
- Keep your headphones tucked away. It’s always better to have less distractions and both ears on the trail
- Be familiar with the path you’re taking before you head out
- Look both directions before stepping on the trail and share the path with other users
