Currently the Traffic Safety Team is comprised of a sergeant, a traffic accident investigator and nine traffic deputies. In addition to working specific areas of responsibility, deputies share traffic enforcement duties with school resource deputies for enforcement of traffic and pedestrian laws around area schools. Traffic Safety Team members are assigned marked and unmarked police vehicles and motorcycles.

Surveys from the City of Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County residents indicate that one of their top concerns is high traffic volume and the number of traffic violations on Arapahoe County and Centennial roadways.

The Traffic Safety Team assigns deputies to work areas of high accidents in the City of Centennial as well as those in unincorporated Arapahoe County. These areas are identified through traffic complaints and accident data.

The Traffic Complaint line is designed to provide information regarding traffic non-urgent, nuisance traffic issues and problems on Centennial and county roads. Traffic complaints can be made on the Traffic Complaint line at 720-874-3825.  This number should NOT be used for in-progress, just occurred, or serious traffic complaints. For those types of complaints, please contact dispatch at 303-795-4711.

Crash data is received and analyzed monthly by the supervisor of the Traffic Safety Team. Based upon this data, deputies are assigned to work the most dangerous areas according to the amount and/or severity of crashes. This data is shared with both the Arapahoe County and Centennial Traffic Engineers and to the Colorado Department of Transportation for assistance on engineering issues. Speed data is also gathered from Patrol Services' fleet of computerized SMART trailers and StealthStat speed data collection devices. Traffic Safety Team deputies are then assigned to work traffic enforcement in these areas during the days, and times of day where the data indicates there is a problem.
