Engineering Services Division
Review and Approval Responsibilities
The Engineering Services Division is responsible for providing Civil Engineering review and approval of land use applications and the associated technical documents primarily to the urban and rural areas of unincorporated Arapahoe County. 

Several responsibilities of the Engineering Services Division include:
  • Assist in the planning for future community infrastructure to meet the needs of Arapahoe County citizens, and provide technical support to other County departments in performing their missions
  • Review Planning and Building Divisions’ land use referrals to assess impacts to public infrastructure
  • Review and approve engineering documents associated with land use referrals, such as:
    • Drainage studies
    • Traffic studies
    • Pavement designs
    • Soils reports
    • Construction drawings
  • Provide recommendations in the form of Engineering Staff Reports to the County’s Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners specific to land use applications 
  • Permitting and inspecting public infrastructure approved via land use referrals
  • Utility coordination, review and approval of utility construction in County right-of-way
  • Administer and regulate the engineering design standards and criteria
  • Ensure applicable legal agreements are executed to guarantee necessary infrastructure is constructed to offset impacts from development
  • Ensure appropriate right-of-way and/or easements are dedicated to the County

Additional Responsibilities
The Engineering Services Division is also responsible for floodplain and stormwater administration, management, and regulation. The Engineering Services Division reviews and evaluates building and construction activities adjacent to FEMA and community regulated floodplains.Floodplain Management staff issues Floodplain Development Permits within the county's jurisdiction. Staff coordinates floodplain activities with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure that Arapahoe County complies with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to remain in good standing.

Staff also participates in Stormwater Master Planning with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) and the Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA).
